SPACE TRIP Claudio Filippini
After three long years, Claudio Filippini's new cd Space Trip is finally out! Unlike in his previous work Us, recorded as a duo with Daniele Mencarelli on doublebass, this time Claudio Filippini merges and blends together his last musical experiences with the Aurum Trio, featuring Luca Bulgarelli and Marcello Di Leonardo, and moves to the conquest of unexplored electronic frontiers. Space Trip is a concept album portraying musically and visually the fantastic story of the trio's adventure, as they are abducted by aliens and then thrown out into deepest space. The CD cover and the booklet were made ad hoc by cartoonist Mauro Padovani. Space Trip will get you to travel through space, as much as through time: the cd tracks cover the time span from 2004 to 2007, a musical mix containing the most significant experiences of the pianist from Pescara, Italy. The Aurum Trio has been born as an improvisational trio composing most of their pieces in-the-moment, without any kind of harmonic or rhytmical cage. The result is fresh and amazing music, the offspring of strong mutual understanding and complicity among the three musicians. Space Trip starts with an extemporaneous version of Body and Soul, the worldwide known jazz standard, and then evolves into a completely original repertoire rich with wildly exotic musical combinations. In Due Hags the melody of the piano recalls '900 classical music sonorities, while the rhythm section pulses with a kind of 80's beat. Rave Lost and Pieno Gas were conceived and realized with drummer and sound maker Michelangelo Del Conte, one of most eclectic musicians in Abruzzo, Italy. Here the piano mixes with electronic sounds and orchestral samples drawn from several works by classical composers like Ravel, Holst and Stravinsky. Placenta is a ballad where the leading player is saxophonist Francesco Bearzatti, one of the most interesting young musicians on the jazz scene. Placenta Reprise resumes the theme of the previous piece in a poignant electronic version. Duke the Armaduke, recorded live at La Casa del Jazz in Rome, is improvised following the melody of Duke Ellington's Caravan, to then culminate in a Chemical Brothers-inspired techno groove. Space trip's musical journey will seduce the listener's ears and will confirm once again the young pianist's sophisticated musical sensitivity and endless courage.
